Sharon started her CACHE (foundation award in caring for children) course with VTS in June 2001. By June 2002 she had successfully completed the course, and after a short break returned to start an NVQ level 2 in Early Years.
Upon starting her NVQ, VTS found Sharon a work placement at a local nursery for children with special needs, where she worked alongside other members of staff and gained vital on the job experience.
Eager to complete her NVQ as quickly as possible Sharon worked extremely hard, and within seven months had completed 8 out of the 10 units.
As with any learner, it is the responsibility of VTS to ensure that they receive the level of support they require to complete their course. Although Sharon did not have any learning difficulties, her rapid progression meant that her assessor needed to visit her more frequently to ensure that her momentum was not slowed.
Sharon's tutor and assessor, Sharon Brooks said ‘Not only has her academic achievements been an inspiration for other learners, but her enthusiasm and aptitude for working with children with special needs has impressed work colleagues and VTS staff'.
After completing her qualification, Sharon wants to return to VTS to start her level 3 NVQ that will, upon completion enable her to progress in her chosen career.
‘My NVQ brought the best out in me. Studying really made a difference and I was offered full time employment. I'm so proud of what I've achieved, and hope to start my level 3 NVQ shortly'.
