Sue has worked as a part time Nursery assistant for many years but wanted to gain a professional qualification to improve her chances of promotion. She was advised to contact VTS to find out about work based learning.
Because of personal commitments and the fact that she had not studied since leaving school, Sue was hesitant about her ability to complete such a course, but with reassurance from her colleagues she decided to start an Early Years level 2 NVQ.
Sue found the first few units of the course to be a real challenge, but was determined to continue. As she progressed, her confidence improved greatly and she began to enjoy her studies.
‘There were times when I doubted that I had what it takes to complete the course, but with the support of my colleagues and assessor I continued'.
Sue's assessor visited her on a regular basis to record her carrying out her day to day duties and to provide the necessary support and guidance she needed to complete each unit.
Since starting her NVQ, Sue's managers and colleagues have noticed a profound improvement in her self confidence and ability, and as a result she has now been employed as a full time member of staff.
‘I can't believe how I have developed whilst studying for my NVQ. Once I achieved my qualification, so many doors were opened up to me and my career has really taken off'.
