 Apprenticeship Level 3 Diploma for the Children & Young People’s Workforce 

Is this the right course for me? 

This qualification replaces the level 3 NVQ and Certificate in Children’s Care, Learning and Development and is for those who are already employed. The level 3 Diploma leads to a recognised qualification relating to your role in a childcare setting, for example in the roles of : Careworker, Childminder, Nursery Nurse or Youth and Community Worker.   

The qualification will enable you to develop your working knowledge and understanding of how to promote the development of children and enable them to reach their full potential.You will gain knowledge of legislative guidelines and policies relating to childcare and how to implement these within your setting as well as gaining numeracy and literacy key skills to support your work with children. 

What are the entry requirements? 

You need to be working in an appropriate job role. You will also need to undertake an initial assessment/interview to check your suitability. 

 What does the course comprise? 

As part of your Apprenticeship you will study:

· Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce Level 3

· Key Skills for Application of Number Level 2

· Key Skills Communication Level 2

· Paediatric First Aid  

Mandatory and Pathway Units 

Within the qualification, there are Three pathways:

 · Early Learning and Childcare pathway

· Social Care pathway

· Learning, Development and Support Services pathway

How long will the course take to achieve? 

Your assessor will plan the timescales for completing the units with you, based on your own personal targets and your choice of units. However, you should be able to achieve the qualification in 18 months maximum.   

How will I be assessed? 

You will be allocated an assessor who will support and guide you through the qualification. They will meet with you regularly in the workplace to help you generate the evidence. The assessor will make the judgements about the suitability of your evidence and provide feedback on your progress towards the qualification. The assessor will also arrange to make work place observations, which are a requirement of the qualification.  

Will I attend college? 

Although there is no need to attend college, you are welcome to use the resources and facilities at our Westcliff  or Colchester centres .  

What support is available?  

Full support will be given, including one to one sessions or workshops with the assessor where appropriate, and contact with the assessor by e-mail or telephone. In addition, e-learning on-line portfolio building facilities are available.

Funding for people aged over 25 who work in Childcare 

For people who are eligible for government funding aged 25+, there is a top-up fee payable of £500 if paid in full within 30 days of invoice. Alternatively we will accept £600, comprising a deposit of £100 paid within 30 days of invoicing, followed by 10 monthly instalments of £50. Please note these fees are not refundable. Funding for adult apprentices is subject to change, so please check with us that it is currently still available. 

However, VTS can access various other pockets of funding as and when they are made available. Please check with us for details.
